Alternatives to Same-Sex Divorce
Getting a divorce may not be your only option. There are states that offer other less-expensive and faster options to dissolve a legal marriage such as separation, annulment, and summary dissolution.
- Separation - Separation isn’t the way to dissolve your marriage. With this, you and your spouse are still married, but you are allowed to live as separate individuals. A lot of couples like to use separation to know if divorce is the more appropriate option.
- Annulment - Annulment is used to dissolve a marriage that is basically void from the beginning. A marriage may be void or voidable if you and your spouse are related, you never formally submitted your marriage paperwork, or the marriage is based on a fraud.
- Summary Dissolution - Summary dissolution is one way to divorce for couples who have been married for less than 5 years. This option is fast, easy and less expensive.
